Styles of Yoga

Hatha Yoga:

A good class to start yoga. Classes are slower placed and more emphasis is placed on doing each Asana correctly. Yoga breathing is explained. Your flexibility will increase and your stress levels should start to decrease.

Power Yoga:

As practiced at the NAC it consists of a series of asana poses taken from the first and second series of Ashtanga, Hatha poses and standing balance poses. It is a challenging yoga practice from which you will develop muscle tone, flexibility and mental awareness. Power and Ashtanga are weight bearing and build bone density.

Ashtanga Yoga:

Progressive techniques of breath, posture and movement. Generate heat from asanas as they are very vigorous. For those who want a serious workout, Ashtanga may be the perfect yoga. Participants move through a series of flows, jumping from one posture to another to build strength, flexibility and stamina. It's not for beginners or anyone who's been taking a leisurely approach to fitness. The first or Primary Series is taught at the NAC and this is a set series without variation.

Yoga for Athletes

A strong, stable body that is fluid and flexible creates the foundation for a healthy, injury-free athlete. For many, flexibility, or fluidity, may be more difficult to achieve than strength and stability. Most athletes are strong but not as flexible as they would like (in more ways than one!). An athlete may find Hatha Yoga too slow or gentle and Power Yoga too intimidating at first. Yoga for Athletes is designed to increase the strength of the arms, core, back, and yes, even legs, but in a more balanced manner. This class will also focus on the areas that athletes in particular need to stretch such as the ham strings, chest, hips, upper back, and calves. This class is for anyone who wants to improve their flexibility, strength, and lung capacity while learning how to relax. Beginners welcomed and encouraged to attend!

Senior Yoga

The ancient, graceful exercise of yoga will be practiced in this senior wellness class. The class combines yoga postures, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques for strength, endurance, balance and flexibility. Postures will be modified and adapted to all ability levels. Especially suited for Seniors and beginners.

Family Yoga

The perfect yoga class for children and their parents. Children should have a reasonable attention span and be interested in the class. Lots of fun for both children and parents.

Partner Yoga

Utilizes the strength and flexibility of two people. While taking root in traditional yoga practice, Partner Yoga postures will feel completely different than if performed alone. Partner Yoga is perfect for anyone be they a novice or seasoned yoga practitioner. You can bring your spouse, significant other, friend or relative. Come by yourself and we will partner you up.

Prenatal Yoga

Expectant Moms can practice yoga safe for them and their baby.
